The 97th Annual Richmond Women’s City Amateur Championship

At 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, the first competitors will tee off at The Dominion Club in the 97th Annual Richmond Women’s City Amateur Golf Championship. Truly a competition for female golfers of all ages and abilities, college players and seniors with indexes ranging from the single digits to the mid 20s will face off in the stroke play qualifying round.

The field of 79 players is the largest in recent years. Match play will continue through Friday until the Champions in all flights have been decided. They will be honored at a reception where trophies will be presented. Everyone is invited to attend the closing festivities.

“The great thing about this tournament,” said Tournament Chair Cathy Plotkin, “is that golfers from all over the area with differing levels of ability can play. The competition in every flight is fierce, but friendly. It doesn’t matter if a player is in the Championship Flight or the Fourth Flight, the drive to win is evident in every match.”

The Dominion Club course is in wonderful shape and offers a challenge to all players. Pace of play is an area of emphasis for RWGA, the tournament presenter. Monday play will be in threesomes and groups are expected to complete their rounds in no more than four hours and twenty minutes. The same time will be the maximum allowed for the twosomes in match play.

Four area businesses are sponsoring this year’s event. They are Virginia Credit Union, Virginia Energy and Lighting, Forward Motion, and Cetera Advisor Networks. “Their generous support is allowing us to provide wonderful gifts to all competitors and many other extras that make this event special,” Plotkin concluded. “We are especially grateful to them and to The Dominion Club for hosting the tournament.”
