Kitusky Wins the Medal

Seventy-eight golfers teed off at The Dominion Club in the qualifying round of the 97th Annual Richmond Women’s City Amateur Golf Championship. While the beautiful course challenged many, a Dominion Club member, Joanne Kitusky, found her home course less problematic, shooting a two under par round to capture the medal.

“I didn’t expect much,” she said, “as I haven’t been feeling wonderful, so I’m as surprised as anyone.” She played steadily throughout the round but worried that she might card a bogey on the eighteenth. “I was relieved that didn’t happen,” she concluded.

The biggest surprise of the day was that three golfers, Maggie Ladd, Beth Brooks and Margaret McGehee, had to playoff for the two final places in the Championship Flight. After parring the playoff hole, number eighteen, Ladd and Brooks won the two remaining spots.

The match play portion of the tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. The order of play will be reversed with the Championship Flight beginning play followed by the first, second, third and fourth flights. The chance of rain is negligible according to forecasters.

All flights will have sixteen competitors except for the fourth which is down to 14 players due to withdrawals. To see the tee times and players, go to the City Amateur website located at 2025richmondwomenscityamateur.golfgenius.com and click on Pairings.
